Do you need a website if you've got a Facebook page?

Lots of Teesside businesses run entirely from Facebook. Here's what that's good for, and what it misses.

Plenty of great local businesses run everything through a Facebook page. It's free, your customers are already on there, and it's easy to post photos of your work. So do you need a website at all?

What Facebook is good for

Keeping regulars up to date, sharing photos and getting messages from people who already know you. For that, it's hard to beat.

What it misses

New customers searching Google. When someone searches 'roofer Middlesbrough' or 'lash tech Stockton', Facebook pages rarely show up near the top. A website with your service and town on it can.

People who aren't on Facebook. Not everyone is, and some people won't log in just to see your prices.

Control. You don't own your Facebook page. If it's hacked, restricted or Facebook changes the rules, you can lose your page overnight.

AI answers. Tools like ChatGPT and Google's AI answers lean on websites and listings. A Facebook-only business gives them very little to recommend.

The answer for most businesses

Keep the Facebook page, and add a simple website that says what you do, where you work, your prices or a guide price, and how to get in touch. Link the two together. That way you're there for regulars and for new people searching.
